Another successful DeepStack Championship event is in the books. This time, our Event #83 $600 NLH NIghtStack $500K GTD attracted 978 players who created a prize pool of $508,560; barely covering the guarantee of $500,000. Of those, 52 made the money and Day 2, collecting $1,600 for their efforts.
The returning 52 players started playing at 6:30pm, and after just over five hours of play, reached a final table of ten. An additional three hours was needed before a champion was crowned.
The two short stacks coming into the final table, Carlos Cobos and Fabian Ortiz where eliminated in the opening orbit of play.
An hour passed before Blake Whittington dropped next in 8th place after losing to Randy Campbell. Campbell was one of the chip leaders, but lost a couple of hands, before falling in 7th place.
Yang was then eliminated in 6th place after being crippled against John Whiteside. He committed his large stack with ace-jack but it was no match against Whiteside’s pocket aces. He was eliminated three hands later.
Whiteside then took out the last three players in the field, Louis Garocki, Greg Baird and the player in Seat 10, before arriving at heads up play.
The two remaining players, Whiteside and Douglas Shirk, didn’t play a single hand against each other and instead agreed to an even chop and ended the night there and then.
