The wind down from the MSPT $2,500,000 guarantee event led to a massive field in Event 42. A field of almost 800 players came together to double the $200,000 guarantee and put over $80,000 initially up for grabs for first place. The final table was reached early in the evening and coming into the last leg of the tournament journey second in chips was Darren Healy. “The R88ster” quickly took control of the final table and held the chip leader advantage for most of play.
Healy took a sizable hit against runner-up Rich Dixon with five players remaining but pulled himself off the canvas and claimed the chip lead shortly after. Once heads up play was reached, Dixon and Healy traded blows before Healy dealt the knockout blow to claim victory and the $72,036 adjusted first place prize.
This win marks the first for Healy at the Venetian in a DSE III event and his second largest overall career tournament score. Healy is sure to be back at the Venetian this summer to chase down another DSE III for his native Canada.
