Another successful DeepStack series tournament is in the books. This time it was our DeepStack Extravaganza IV Event #5 $600 NLH MonsterStack $150K GTD. This tournament attracted 316 players over two starting flights who combined for a prize pool of $159,580. Of those, 47 returned for Day 2, and 36 found themselves in the money.
Our final table was very Vegas-heavy with many familiar faces, as well as a few out-of-towners. Attitudes were mostly pleasant, save for a few dirty looks and low grumbles when an opponent sucked out, but, after all, that’s poker.
Coming into the final table, our champ Timothy Gilliam had the fourth lowest amount of chips; however, once he started eliminating players, he took the chip lead and never looked back. In fact, Gilliam eliminated four of the five players who were eliminated (notwithstanding the other three who, along with Gilliam, made a deal.)
A deal was briefly mentioned when we were five-handed, but that never reached fruition. When we reached four-handed, our remaining players were quite eager to take their money and run. Hands were shaken, smiles abounded, a few chuckles and guffaws were shared and it was a happily ever after ending to a very successful tournament.
When all was said and done, Timothy Gilliam had the lion’s share of the chips and took the title. This is his first Venetian trophy as well as his largest live cash. Congratulations again to Timothy Gilliam.
Congratulations again to the rest of our final table.
