Another highly successful DeepStack Extravaganza tournament is in the books. This time it was our DSE IV Event #46 $400 NLH MonsterStack $100K GTD that attracted 429 players who combined for a prize pool of $142,857. Of them, 64 made Day 2 and 45 of them found themselves in the money, each vying for the $31,428 top prize.
It took a while to get to our final table, but once we did, the action started out faster and more furious. We lost our first four players quite quickly; however, as we saw more eliminations, it took longer and longer for each one.
Our champ Valentyn Shabelnyk had a commanding chip lead entering the final table and maintained it for quite some time. When we were three-handed, however, the chips were changing hands rather quickly. At one point, the three remaining gentlemen were nearly even with respect to stacks. In fact, after Brent Hart eliminated Daniel Pickering in third place, Hart had the chip lead.
Our heads-up battle was quite entertaining with each gentleman trying to out-raise the other. However, toward the end, the stoic-faced Ukrainian dug in his heels and took no prisoners. His gradual yet relentless assault on Hart’s chip stack eventually took Shabelnyk across the finish line.
Valentyn Shabelnyk is certainly no stranger to the Venetian Poker Room, nor is he a stranger to the final table. His last few outing saw him eliminated rather quickly, so he was ecstatic to make it to the end. Congratulations again to Valentyn Shabelnyk from Ukraine and his hefty $31,428 plus his brand new gorgeous trophy.
Congratulations again to the rest of our final table.
