The first two levels of Day 2 for Event 67 are behind us and players are on their first break of the day. Registration for this event is available until the end of Level 14 and a few more players are expected to jump in during that time. Once the registration period concludes, the total prize pool will be calculated and posted on the Venetian Poker Room blog.

As the field nears the money, chips become all the more important and a look at some of the chip leaders will be posted when play resumes.

Over 40 players have taken advantage of the option to register on Day 2 and although their starting stack is small relative to the blinds, their talent is more than enough to overcome the disadvantage.

Martin Jacobson put on a short stack display for the ages when he stormed back in the 2014 WSOP Main Event to win after starting eighth in chips. Jacobson’s poker skills have him prepared for the uphill climb he faces and he is more than up to the challenge of chipping up on Day 2. 

Chris Moorman entered the Day 2 field at the start of Day 2 play and is already nearing the 100,000 mark before the first break of the day. Moorman earned his first WSOP bracelet this summer after years of waiting and one of poker’s all-around greats is chipping into contention for his second major title of this month.

The $3,500 buy-in and large guarantee for Event 67 have many calling it the “Summer WPT” given how similar the tournament is in size and structure. With plenty of results achieved on that tour, there are a few players who are well-suited to make it deep this week.

Before the WPT went in the direction of the year-ending Tournament of Champions, Keven Stammen won one of the last WPT Championships in 2014 at the Borgata for $1,350,000. That win is one of many for the “Stammdog” who also owns a WSOP bracelet. Stammen bought in at the start of Day 2 and working toward his first career DSE III win, exceeding his second place finish in the $1,100 event in 2015.

One of the most well-rounded players in the world, some of Chris Klodnicki’s largest tournament scores have come on the World Poker Tour. His best result came in 2015 when he reached the podium in the LA Poker Classic. At the end of 2016, Klodnicki bubbled the final table of the Five Diamond Poker Classic in Las Vegas, placing seventh. Klodnicki has one WSOP final table already this summer and is looking for some hardware to go along with his $9,000,000 in tournament earnings. 

One of poker’s most prolific tweeters, Matt Glantz is also one the most consistent in deep runs. Glantz cashed four times during the most recent season of the WPT and seems to always be in the hunt late on Day 2 and 3. Glantz’s experience in mix games have transitioned over to No Limit tournaments and he is attempting to make his first major (non-pool) splash of the summer.

Event 67: $3,500 No-Limit Hold’em $3,000,000 Guarantee began with thee starting days on June 26 and racked up an entries tally of 964 players. The remaining 232 players returned for Day 2 today at 1 p.m., but with registration still open, the actual field size has remained stable.

There have been 30 entries so far on Day 2, bringing the total number of players to 994 and producing a still-growing prize pool of $3,180,800.

Registration remains open until the completion of Level 14, ending at approximately 4:30 p.m. today.

Players registering at the last possible moment will sit down with a starting stack of 20,000 and begin Level 15 with blinds at 1,200/2,400 with a 400 ante.

As the week’s tick by, more players are starting to add cash upon cash to their summer war chest. It has been a profitable summer for quite a few, and this $3,000,000 guaranteed event will likely add another payout cage trip for a trio of players.

Chris Hunichen caught his first wave of Summer Heat at the start of June when he finished fourth in the DSE III $10,000 High Roller. That score was worth just under $100,000 to Hunichen and he followed that up by taking second in the $5,000 WSOP Six-Max. Hunichen earned a career-high $358,000 for that result and his over 100 big blind stack has him in place to potentially have his live earnings climb over the $2,000,000 mark in this event. 

One of the best young players in the game, Alex Foxen has cashed an astounding nine times already this summer. Foxen has been on the verge of his first career six-figure live score for quite some time now and Event 67 marks a great opportunity for him to make the leap to poker stardom. First things first, though, Foxen must navigate a tough table that features Nick Petrangelo and Tom Marchese. 

Speaking of firsts, Chris Brammer won his first WSOP bracelet last week in the $5,000 Turbo event. Most of Brammer’s live scores have come in his native England but his results in the United States have served him well. Brammer finished 14th in the DSE III $1,600 event last summer and is out to top that finish this time around.

The whole poker world assembles in Las Vegas for the summer, bringing a crop of players from across the world into one area. Among the players who bagged over 100,000 in their respective Day 1 session are some from all different parts of the country.

The leader of the aptly named Chip Leader Coaching, Chance Kornuth starts Day 2 near the top with 184,000. Originally hailing from Colorado, Kornuth has lived in Florida and now calls Washington, D.C. home. Kornuth never makes life easy for his opponents and his large stack has him as a relative favorite to run deep in this event. 

California’s Jason Les is a heads up specialist so revered, he once beat a computer as part of the Carnegie Mellon Heads Up Challenge. That prowess was shown this summer when he cashed in the WSOP $10,000 Heads Up event. In recent years, Les has started to play more live tournaments and with his starting stack of over 100,000, is in a great position to earn his first career cash at The Venetian.

Greg Fishberg limits his travel schedule to primarily around his home state of Pennsylvania and is out to make the most of his latest trip to Las Vegas. The Parx legend has put together three cashes so far this summer and brought over 140,000 into Day 2. Fishberg is well-versed in deep-structured tournaments and this event plays right into that specialty.

Almost 1,000 players entered over the course of the three starting flights for Event 67 of DSE III. Nearly one-quarter of those entries return for the start of Day 2 with more set to join them. In one of the toughest fields assembled inside of The Venetian this summer, we are set to play into the money and beyond.

As with all of the Day 1s, levels will be 60-minutes with breaks after every second level. There are 10 levels scheduled to be played before all remaining players bag up and return for Day 3. Entry is available through the end of Level 14 (approximately 4:30 pm) and all players who register during that time will come into play with the starting stack of 20,000.

Georgios Karakousis starts the day in front and is the only player over 300,000 chips. Karakousis is in charge for now but there are many players returning for Day 2 with over 100 big blinds including Eric Baldwin, John Moore, and Nick Petrangelo. All signs point to a loaded final table and the next step toward then is ready to get started. The Venetian Poker Room blog will have updates for all of Day 2 & 3 as the first part of the over $3,000,000 prize pool gets set to be handed out.
