DeepStack Extravaganza Event 56 Champion –
Rob Salaburu

One of the largest prize pools in Las Vegas this summer drew a humongous field of 2,216 to the Venetian for the $2,000,000 guaranteed Event 56. The Day 2 field of 350 returned players with all types of poker success and even with the field whittled down to 40 for Day 3, there was still talent abound. Never one to not stand out in a crowd, 2012 November Niner Rob Salaburu made waves as his chip stack grew on Day 2.

By the time the bags came out, Salaburu was third in chips and used his end game experience to make it through Day 3 to the final table, where he started near the top. From there, Salaburu’s aggressive play and well-timed knockouts allowed him to stay within striking distance of the lead. Salaburu’s elimination of Dan DiZenzo in fifth gave him a narrow chip advantage over Adam Geyer and Harsukhpaul “Johnny” Sangha.

Once the negotiations started for the four-way deal, Salaburu held the leverage and chips necessary to earn him the most money along with the DSE III title. This win and the $360,398 Salaburu earns marks his second largest tournament score, behind his Main Event final table finish. Salaburu has stayed off the tournament radar for the most part in recent years but perhaps this win will have him playing in future events at the Venetian.
