The new blinds put an extra set of strain on the short stacks and as a result, two of them are out. Georgios Karakousis started the final table as the chip leader but dwindled down from losing several small pots while Tanveer Dhanjal never fully got anything going after doubling up at the start. Both are on the rail and the final table is six-handed.
Jonathan Karamalikis raised to 200,000 in early position and Karakousis shoved the button for 1,160,000. Javier Zarco called in the small blind and Karamalikis folded. Zarco’s A♣Q♠ was in a flip with Karakousis’s 5♣5♥ and the K♠7♠3♣K♣Q♦ board paired him at the end to double up. Karakousis will take home $72,653. Zarco is playing 6,920,000.
Dhanjal shoved for 1,100,000 with A♥6♠ under the gun and Boris Kolev re-shoved with A♠J♦ for a few hundred thousand more on his left. Everyone else folded and Dhanjal was at risk and behind. The K♣K♥5♥8♥4♦ runout was no help and Dhanjal is out. He earns $95,770 for his seventh place finish.
After the two eliminations, Brett Apter doubled up when his 10♦8♦ caught a pair of tens on the turn against Karamalikis’s A♥9♥. The shove was for 945,000 and Karamalikis is down to 5,450,000. Bob Bounahra and Omar Zazay are the two short stacks with both players under 20 big blinds.
