Paul Balzano
Paul Balzano outlasted a field of 287 entries to win Event 10: $1,100 No-Limit Hold’em SuperStack $200,000 Guarantee for $64,356.
After the elimination of Nikolai Sears in 4th and Darren Rabinowitz in 3rd, Balzano and Apolinar Borja found themselves heads-up.
Nearly even in chips, Borja raised to 340,000 and Balzano made it 1,000,000. Borja moved all-in for 2,910,000 and Balzano called for his last 2,785,000.
Borja showed pocket Sevens but Balzano rolled over Aces.
After a flop of K♠9♠9♥, the 7♣ fell on the turn, giving Borja the better hand and Balzano needing an Ace. The A♣ turned up on the river, Balzano doubled-up to nearly all the chips in play and Borja was left with just 125,000.
Borja moved all-in blind on the next hand with 9♥3♣ and Balzano called with J♦3♦. Borja was eliminated runner-up for $39,735 on a K♠Q♦4♣7♣J♦ board.
The DeepStack Extravaganza win comes as Balzano’s second recent tournament victory – he won the 2017 Isle Poker Open $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em $500,000 Guarantee Main Event for $112,075 in Pompano Beach, Fla on October 26.
