Well, another hugely successful DeepStack Series tournament is in the books. This time it was our DeepStack Extravaganza NYE Event #51 $340 NLH DoubleStack $100K GTD that drew a field of 518 players who combined for a guarantee-busting prize pool of $145,040. Of these players, 66 returned for Day 2, each of them vying for the $31,179 top prize.
As usual, our final table was an amalgamation of local regulars (and irregulars) and visitors. As it took some time to reach the final table, it also took some time to get the final table rolling. We had the usual mix of raises, shoves, and folds as each player was “testing the water” trying to size up his/her opponents. After two eliminations, it seemed as though we were seven-handed for several hours before the action picked up again.
Our champion Ross Ward was responsible for eliminating four of his opponents (including second, third, and fourth places as he was on quite a roll as the tournament progressed) while runner-up Eric Baldwin eliminated two others. Our third-place finisher Vyacheslav Stoyanov was responsible for the other elimination.
When all was said and done, Ross Ward had emerged victorious. Ward is not a stranger to our poker room as he previously won Event #1 of last summer’s DeepStack Championship Poker Series.
Congratulations again to Ross Ward on his well-earned victory, his hefty $31,179 prize, and, of course, his brand new stunning and highly coveted trophy which he said he may give to his mom since he has previously won one.
Congratulations again to the rest of our final table.
