DeepStack Extravaganza Event 32 Champion –
Stefan Meier

Stefan Meier took control of the Event 32 final table right from the start of ten-handed play and hit a hot streak in Level 21 that his opponents could not overcome. Meier had one opponent standing in his way in Jack Smith (pseudonym for a player who wished to remain anonymous) but took care of Smith in only a few hands to claim victory.

Smith raised to 65,000 on the button and Meier raised enough to put Smith all-in. Smith called for his last 850,000 with 6♣6 and was in a flip against Meier’s AK. The 543♣ flop took away Meier’s straight outs but the K♠ turn put Meier in the lead. The 3♠ river did nothing for Smith and he earns $9,442 for his second place finish.

Meier takes home $15,245 for his first career DSE victory in what turned into a dominating final table performance. Along with his first place prize, Meier also earns nearly $2,000 in bounties. This victory is also Meier’s first ever recorded win and hopefully, he returns to the Venetian to take his shot in future tournaments here.

Nick Wilson

Event 32 is now officially heads up as Nick Wilson is the next player to head out in this fast-paced Level 21. Wilson was relatively short for most of the final table but managed to climb up onto the podium but will have to settle for third place.

Jack Smith opened to 75,000 on the button and Wilson moved all-in for 360,000 in the small blind. Stefan Meier called from the big blind and Smith elected to call as well.

Meier and Smith checked the 7♠5♣3♠ flop and Meier shoved on the 6♣ turn. Smith folded for his last 800,000 and Meier turned up 44 for a turned straight. Wilson was live with a set 55♠ but the K♣ river did not pair the board and he is out.

Meier brings a lead of roughly 2.5:1 into his heads up match with Smith.

Tim Woodson

Tim Woodson doubled up through Josias Santos earlier in Level 21 but hit a quick spell of bad luck and was swept out the door after doubling up “Jack Smith.”

Smith was all-in for 250,000 with A♠Q♠ against the KK of Woodson but an ace on the turn locked up the hand for Smith to leave Woodson short.

A few hands later, Woodson moved all-in for 275,000 and was called by Smith. Woodson needed to improve with A5 against the 9♣9 of Smith but the 9♠ turn had those hopes evaporate. Smith is playing 965,000 while Stefan Meier still leads with 1,350,000.

Event 32: Ryan Friese Eliminated 5th ($3,695)

Ryan Friese

The next player out is Ryan Friese, who is the latest player to get swept into Stefan Meier’s vortex. Friese jammed for 200,000 in the cutoff and Meier called out of the big blind.

Friese was very live with Q♣10♣ against the A♠4 of Meier but the A♣10♠9 flop increased Meier’s edge. Friese did not pick up any additional outs on the 7 turn and hit the rail once the 2♣ hit the river.

Meier’s chip stack continues to grow and he is now playing about 1,600,000 of the 2,725,000 in play.

Event 32: Josias Santos Eliminated 6th ($2,874)

Josias Santos

Josias Santos started the Event 32 final table as the chip leader but could not complete the job he started and is out in sixth place with two players finishing him off in Tim Woodson along with Stefan Meier.

Santos opened to 75,000 in the hijack and Woodson three-bet all-in for 305,000 on the button. Santos called with 88♠ and had the 107 of Woodson at risk. The AJ3 flop, however, put Woodson firmly out in front and he earned the double up.

Santos was knocked down to 155,000 and lost his remaining chips against Stefan Meier the very next hand when his A♠4♠ fell to Meier’s AJ♣.
