DeepStack Showdown Event #14 Final Table Wrap Up

Well, another successful DeepStack Showdown tournament is in the books. This time, our Event #14 $400 NLH DoubleStack $250K GTD drew 852 players who combined for a prize pool of $285,420, thus exceeding our guarantee. Of these 852, 45 players bagged for Day 2, each of whom was aiming for the $51,000+ first prize.

We reached our final table rather quickly and our final ten gentlemen were an eclectic blend of pros, novices, locals, and visitors, each of whom had their own unique playing style—more so than usual—which made the final table quite enjoyable and somewhat hectic.

The chip lead moved around quite a bit, with players quickly going from short-stacked to chip leader and back down again with some regularity. Pocket tens seemed to be the hand of the day as four of our final table double-ups were accomplished with this hand.

When we were three-handed, the gentlemen agreed on a three-way even chop, but they continued to play with an additional $21,504 and the trophy—and, of course, the title— up for grabs. As would be expected, the final few hands had more of a home game feel with much more talk and laughter.

When all was said and done, Mahesh Rathi emerged victorious, claiming the title, the hefty $50,176 first prize, and our stunning and highly coveted trophy. In fact, this was Rathi’s first tournament trophy ever as well as his largest live tournament cash to date. Congratulations again to Mahesh Rathi who won the tournament with, yes, indeed, a 2♣ and 3♠.
