The DSE III series has added many faces to the Winner’s Gallery in the last few weeks. Those players are lodged in Venetian lore and a few of them are back in Event 99 looking to become the first player this series to make a repeat trip to the winner’s circle.

David Stamm earned one of the largest prizes at the Venetian this summer when he took down Event 33: $10,000 High Roller for $306,000. The victory was a great achievement for Stamm as he beat a stacked final table filled with Darren Elias, Paul Volpe, and Adrian Mateos, with Sam Soverel finishing second. The California tech executive is coming off of a cash in the $10,000 WSOP Main Event and is well equipped to make his second final table of the DSE III series.

Neil Patel earned his trophy in Event 53: $800 8-Max $800,000 guaranteed. Patel put on a stellar display at that final table and finished on top of 1,500 player field for his second six-figure score of 2017. Patel also cashed in the Main Event and wouldn’t mind the checked bag fee that would come with bringing another DSE III trophy home with him.

Event 67 final tablist Bob Bounahra is one of the players taking their shot at the $1,500,000 guaranteed prize pool in Event 99.

The approximate number of players required to hit the $1,500,000 guarantee in Event 99 is 1,500 and that target is drawing close on the first break of Day 1B. Exactly 700 players have entered so far with more sure to follow. The registration period is open until 9:00 pm tonight and the field should be able to draw more than 200 additional entrants during that time.

The Venetian Poker Room has stopped all cash games for today to create as much space as possible for the Day 1B field. Alternates are being called as soon as seats are available. Once the registration period wraps up, the Venetian Poker Room Blog will have a listing of the official prize pool from this event.

Level 3 (100/200)
Guarantee: $1,500,000
Day 1B Entries: 675
Total Entries: 1,313

The summer is winding down and soon enough, all the players who arrived in Las Vegas a few weeks ago will depart to their respective corners of the country. The $1,100 SuperStack is one of the last tournaments remaining on the schedule and a few players hope to finish out strong.

David Jackson is one of the hardest workers on the tournament circuit and his persistence paid off last week when he won Event 80: $1,100 SuperStack $300,000 guaranteed. That win earned Jackson $56,000 and he followed the strong effort up with a Day 4 finish in the WSOP Main Event. Jackson has grossed over $100,000 this summer and hopes to add another five-figure payday to his haul.

New Jersey’s Mike Azzaro has put together a few small scores but is waiting for his breakout performance. Azzaro has recorded a respectable cash total of eight for his volume put in this summer. The beach awaits Azzaro when he returns home but he would much rather land in the Garden State with gold in his pockets rather than sand.

Event 99: Guarantee Nearing In First Level Of Play

Event: $1,100 No-Limit Hold’em SuperStack (Day 1B)
Level 1 (50/100)
Guarantee: $1,500,000
Day 1B Entries: 504
Total Entries: 1,141

Yesterday’s Day 1A field of 638 entrants in Event 99 set a high bar for Day 1B to match. So far, the registration cage has been buzzing with players as over 500 already in during the first level of play. The $1,500,000 guarantee needs a little over 1,500 total entries to be hit and with the fast start to Day 1B, that number should be within range soon enough.

To accommodate space for the expected turnout, all cash games have been canceled until further notice. Players are encouraged to register as soon as possible for today’s flight to avoid an alternate line. As with yesterday, registration and unlimited re-entry are available until 9:00 pm and regardless of what time a player registers, they will start with a starting stack of 20,000.

The Venetian Poker Room will do all within its power to seat players as quickly as possible. On the other side of things, the Venetian Poker Room blog will be keeping tabs on the field size and familiar faces in the Day 1B crowd throughout the early part of play.

Event 99: Field Continuing To Grow On Second Break

Level 6 (200/400/50)
Guarantee: $1,500,000
Day 1A Entries: 464

The Day 1A field continues to grow and on the second break of the day, the field is closing in on 500 entrants. More players are registering at every opportunity and this first opening flight is likely to top 600 entrants by the time registration closes around 9:00 pm. The $1,500,000 guarantee obviously will not be reached today but the encouraging start bodes well for tomorrow’s Day 1B.

Official numbers will be posted for this flight once the registration period concludes and all players who enter from this point forward will receive the standard stack of 20,000 chips. A recap of the chip counts from Day 1A are to be posted as play wraps up for the evening on the Venetian Poker Blog. Players will be on a 30-minute dinner break at the conclusion of Level 9.

Event 99: Straight From The Biggest One Of Them All

Level 5 (150/300/50)
Guarantee: $1,500,000
Day 1A Entries: 411

The WSOP Main Event is currently in Day 4 and reached the money bubble late last night. Hundreds of players have collected a payout so far today and made the trip down Flamingo Road to the Venetian to take part in this $1,500,000 guaranteed event.

Carlos Mortensen hit the rail early today at the Rio but is forever encased in history for his 2001 Main Event win. The 2016 Poker Hall of Fame inductee has three cashes at The Venetian this summer but remains in search of his first ever title here. Mortensen has obviously accomplished plenty in his time on the felt and it would come as no surprise to see him make one more run to finish out his summer.

Brandon West took down the first DSE III trophy handed out this summer by winning Event 1: $250 $125,000 guaranteed. That win earned West $31,000 and he made a trip to the payout desk a little bit earlier today after cashing in the Main Event for the first time. West’s career earnings are now over the $300,000 mark and he can add even more with a deep finish in Event 99.

Event 99: History Is Never Far Away

Event: $1,100 No-Limit Hold’em SuperStack (Day 1A)
Level 4 (100/200/25)
Guarantee: $1.500,000
Day 1A Entries: 340

Poker tournaments have a way of entrenching themselves in history and out in the Event 99 field, the top two finishers from the first ever WSOP Millionaire Maker are seated one table away as their paths intersect once again.

While he came up just shy of winning the event, Michael Bennington certainly can’t complain about his $741,900 finish for second place. The Las Vegas doctor plays tournament poker as his schedule allows it and just this week, final tabled Event 91: $600 SuperStack $200,000 guaranteed and took third place. Bennington is obviously no stranger to large cashes and a high finish in Event 99 would give him another six-figure score.

Benny Chen won the Millionaire Maker event in 2013 for nearly $1,200,000. The Canadian restauranter had his life changed forever that day and since then, Chen has been a consistent figure on the tournament circuit. Chen made his first World Poker Tour final table in November 2016 and is attempting to add a DSE III title to his collection this week.

Event 99: Over 300 Entrants On First Break

Event: $1,100 No-Limit Hold’em SuperStack (Day 1A)
Level 3 (100/200)
Guarantee: $1.500,000
Day 1A Entries: 309

The first three levels of Event 99 are in the books and the field is on a short break. The field size is over 300 entrants and the opening flight of this event is still open for another seven hours. Registration closes at approximately 9:00 pm, giving all players ample time to either late register or re-enter. Given the expected four-figure field size for this event along with the additional day of entry tomorrow, the number of players currently in the field is certainly an optimistic sign.

As more players jump in today’s Day 1A, the Venetian Poker Room blog will keep tabs on the field growth along with some of the players populating it.

Event 99: One More Deep Run Still Left In The Tank

Event: $1,100 No-Limit Hold’em SuperStack (Day 1A)
Level 2 (75/150)
Guarantee: $1.500,000
Day 1A Entries: 246

The DSE III series has featured many players who have either made multiple deep runs in events or picked up another trophy to add to their growing collection. A few of those players are in the Event 99 field and are attempting to make one more trip to the payout cage before all is said and done.

DSC_0004

Matt Yorra is among the most profitable players who have participated in multiple DSE III events. Yorra has seven cashes so far and two final table appearances during the current series. The largest portion of Yorra’s earnings came in Event 56: $1,600 $2,000,000 guaranteed, when he finished fourth in a four-way deal for $190,000. A first place finish still eludes Yorra and perhaps Event 99 is the one that will push him over the top.

Daniel Bland won his third career Venetian title a few weeks ago when he took home $90,000 for winning Event 63: $600 SuperStack $200,000 guaranteed. Bland literally brought the trophy back home to England and has returned to add another title to his tota haul. There are few players who can claim four DSE III titles and Bland would join that elite company with a win this week in Event 99.
